Jewelry with the "Horse Design"
By bspider
Do you own a piece of jewelry with a horse on it? Many people do. In fact, jewelry with the “horse theme” has fascinated people for centuries, from ancient times to our present day. Families would often make jewelry out of precious metals such as gold and silver, and accent them with a horse or two. The resulting pieces were often treasured family heirlooms, passed on down from generation to generation.
So, why is the “horse theme” so popular in jewelry? Well, the horse is a majestic animal, and symbolic of a number of desirable traits. Traits such as:
a) Grace – Is there a more graceful animal than the horse? Just watch them gallop along in an open pasture. Every fiber of their being is like “poetry in motion”. It is such a beautiful streamlined animal, the heart’s desire of many a young boy and girl. Diamonds are known as gemstones of class and elegance, and it’s no surprise that they are often included in jewelry with an equestrian design.
b) Strength – Horses have been used to perform many of man’s manual labors throughout the years. Consider the Clydesdales…the real “work horses”. A graceful and beautiful animal, yes, but a very strong and powerful one as well. A piece of jewelry that incorporates the horse design can exude the power and strength of the animal. A perfect gift for that special man in your life.
c) Nobility - What a noble create the horse is. In the middle ages knights rode their horses with full body armor, horse designs incorporated into their shields. How did the peasants get around? They walked along side the knights…no horse, no armor, and no shields…let alone one with any sort of a horse design. In today’s world people of high ranking are often honored with horse jewelry, particularly gold brooches and medallions (with the design of a horse’s head engraved into the piece of course). Rings with a horse-head design are often awarded as a sign of “higher social class” or “nobility”.
We have left out the main reason people wear horse jewelry. Do you know what that is? They love horses…and want to show this love off to the world. These people have to go about their daily lives, have to study, have to go here and there, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t show off their love of their horses via their jewelry.
